There's a lot of information here, but most of it is inaccessible unless you're willing to go step-by-step, start-to-finish and complete the tutorials. It makes a very poor reference because the information in the book is incomplete until you complete the tutorials.Perhaps four or five stars for those who want a tutorial-based learning experience. One or two for those who want to cherry-pick the info they need.
This is the second edition I have purchased. It is an excellent course and other then one or two minor issues in the tutorials, which are a lot of fun, the course has moved me to the next level. It is important to have a basic understanding of HTML but I found the book engaging and I now use it as an excellent reference. I can't wait for the update to Dreamweaver CC 2015 I'm not a very good typist so I will let DW handle the basic typing and use What I learned to tweak the CSS. Buy the book you won't regret it, and by the way it's massive.
The book is up to date on everything I've encountered. There is a ton of content, but it feels easy to navigate. This will provide with a ton of CSS skills and be a good foundation for making designs. I would recommend it as a reference manual. The book feels like it will last for a while, but will eventually suffer from wear.
This book is very well done. The author went to a lot of effort to create tutorials in each chapter that allow you to see theeffects of CSS properties in an incremental manner. Plus, he provides the completed tutorial as well, so you can save timeby copying and pasting rather than having to type in every CSS block or property setting. I appreciate that. Thank youMr. McFarland for an excellent teaching book. I've been able to make use of the information directly in my work right away.In addition his explanations of the CSS properties are very clear and helpful. There are a few typos in the book, but thatalways happens. Previously I had gotten the CSS 3 book by Gasston but that book is a little more advanced and fast pacedand doesn't have all the tutorials that this one has. Highly recommended.
This book is very well written and helped me develop a great understanding of CSS. The author explains the concepts and then takes you through a hand's on exercise that lets you see how it works. The hands on exercises are well thought out and very beneficial.
I found this book to be very informative and it taught me quite a few new things about CSS. It is well written and easy to understand with good tutorials following each chapter. My one complaint about this book is that it didn't go into much detail about media queries. It also didn't even mention the rest of the @ rules.Despite the lack of @ rules, I still give this book 5 stars because it is packed full of very useful knowledge.
Very clearly written with good tutorials. It teaches the basics about how internet displays work. As one reviewer wrote, it sometimes teaches you something and then poof! tells you it's outdated and nobody uses that anymore, but that's a small price to pay for clear writing. The book provides a good foundation for web skills in general.
This is the 3rd edition of this book that I'm reading. I bought the 1st and 2nd editions and now the 4th. That says a lot about how good this series is. I really needed to get up to speed with HTML5 and CSS3 and was delighted to find this highly readable hà ndbook by the same author offering exactly that. Whilst you only need basic HTML knowledge, those who have been building websites for a while longer will not be bored. Loads of useful stuff and some nice projects to work through.
