This book is awful, the worst I have ever seen. I am a professional writer, but I could overlook the fact that it is so poorly written. A software tutorial should answer the questions, What are the features of this software, where do I find them, and how do I use them. This book vaguely describes some of the features in the last third of the book. The first third pays homage to the Wordpress software, telling the reader how wonderful it is. The second third is a blatant advertisement for a web hosting service, and the reader is asked to use the author's name. There are several pages dedicated to the fact that passwords need to be complex to be secure, something we have all heard too many times. In the last third, features of the Wordpress Dashboard are described - as if the reader needed a paragraph about what "Appearance" might mean. Where do I find the Wordpress Dashboard? The author gives no clue, but asks, "Do you get my drift?" and refers to things being or not being "cool." Plugins are mentioned as well, and are defined as, and I quote, "A plugin is just like a software that provides additional features and functionalities to your Wordpress website." Did this definition teach you exactly what a plugin is? He continues a bit later, "I advice (should be advise, not advice) you don't bother yourself since you're just starting out and make sure you only download free plugins…." There are several tips on steps to write a blog, but not any to allow you to become "A Wordpress Website Designer in 5 Days or Less," as you can see from my direct quotes above. This book is a fraud, do not buy it.
This is an advertisement for a hosting service. The very little content there is requires you to buy hosting from some off the wall site. This book uses large print and a lot of white space to give you as few words as possible.
None of the plugins installed as instructed in this book. My WordPress is installed and I can edit my posts partly because I know HTML. But the confusion between Wordpress.org and WordPress.com made it impenetrable to activate Jetpack and other plugins. I was already posting, and this book set me back, which makes it less than worthless.
A good short read with good explanations and suggestions for those new to Wordpress. Three stars because titled " 5-day Wordpress school". It is undeniably a good few hours of worthwhile reading but "How to become a Wordpress website designer in 5 days or less" claims more than book contains.
I found The 5-Day WordPress School to be an excellent source of information for creating your own blog and/or website. I have read numerous books on creating your own WordPress website and I believe that this book is the best book that I have read on the subject of setting up the website for my business. I plan to use this book as a reference when I start designing my business' website.
I thought this book was very helpful. It especially guided me through the process of finding someone to host my website and how that works. The service he recommended has very good customer service! That's impressive for newbies!
Marvelous! After weeks of "free" and video tutorials I gave up. I'm the rare bird who needs written guidance. This book was great!
